KAWASAKI SWEEPS SECOND JEWEL OF TRIPLE CROWN

Irvine, Calif – Monster Energy Kawasaki riders James Stewart and Ryan Villopoto earned a little extra money from their primary sponsors this weekend as they swept the second leg of the Monster Energy Kawasaki Triple Crown of Motocross at Red Bud Motocross USA in Buchanan, Mich. Both Stewart and Villopoto went 1-1 on the way to their respective overall victories. In the AMA Motocross class Timmy Ferry finished 23-2 for eighth overall. In the AMA Motocross Lites class Brett Metcalfe continued to recover from a shoulder injury, finishing 11-10 for ninth overall. For the Motosport Xtreme Kawasaki team, Andrew McFarlane and Kyle Chisholm earned top -10 finishes. Austin Stroupe and Branden Jesseman did not compete.

Monster Energy Kawasaki Under the Tent
Still Perfect
Stewart ran his perfect season to 12-straight moto wins and six overall victories as he cruised to the top of the podium at Red Bud. Stewart continued his domination, leading 18 of the 19 laps on Sunday.

“It feels good to get another victory,” said Stewart. “It is special because it’s been a while since I won here. The last time I got an overall win at Red Bud was in the motocross lites class.”
***
A Streak of His Own
Stewart isn’t the only one on a winning streak as Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Villopoto has reeled off 11 straight moto wins and five-straight overall victories. With his 1-1 finish, Villopoto increased his series lead to 95 points.

“Everything is going good for us this year,” said Villopoto. “The motos went well today. It was unfortunate for my competition because they had some bad luck and I gained a lot of points on them. I have a 95 point lead right now so I’ve got a nice cushion there. That’s what I want and now I need to play it safe to keep my mistakes to a minimum.”

Murrieta, CA – MDK KTM Factory Team rider Billy Laninovich returned to action at the 5th round of the AMA Motocross Series at the Thunder Valley MX Park this past weekend in Lakewood, CO.

Laninovich raced the KTM 450 SX-F machine alongside teammate Nick Wey to contest the Motocross class for the MDK KTM Factory Team.        NHRA driver Scott Kalitta killed in crash in NJ

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Scott Kalitta died Saturday when his Funny Car crashed and burst into flames during qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

State police confirmed that the 46-year-old Kalitta, a two-time Top Fuel champion who had 18 career victories, was killed in the accident.

Witnesses told The Star-Ledger of Newark that Kalitta's Toyota Solara was traveling at an estimated speed of 300 mph when the crash occurred.

The Palmetto, Fla., resident started his career at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in 1982. His father, Connie Kalitta, was a longtime driver and team owner known as "The Bounty Hunter," and his cousin, Doug Kalitta, also drives competitively.

Motorcycle stunt driver Robbie Knievel successfully jumps over ...

Knievel successfully jumps 21 Hummers at Texas !

FORT WORTH, Texas

- Motorcycle daredevil Robbie Knievel successfully completed a shortened jump Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway.

Knievel jumped over 21 Hummer vehicles, four less than had originally been planned because of a headwind gusting more than 30 mph. The landing ramp protected the last three of the large SUVs in the line, though Knievel easily cleared all the vehicles and avoided crashing even after hitting the landing ramp off-center.

"I just hung on because it was just straight up and down, the wind right in my face. It was a little spooky," Knievel said. "But thanks God. Again!"

The 46-year-old Knievel, who has made more than 250 jumps since he was 9 years old, had said this would probably be his last jump in

Texas ."I love you Texas, bye-bye," Knievel said after the jump.

It was the second jump in the last two weeks for the son of the late Evel Knievel. At Kings Island in Ohio on May 24, Knievel jumped over 24 delivery trucks lined side-by-side. His father jumped 14 buses there in 1975, a stunt broadcast by ABC-TV's Wide World of Sports that set a record for total viewers.

Robbie Knievel's latest jump came before the IndyCar Series race, his second successful jump at Texas Motor Speedway. He jumped the starting grid of 20 Indy Cars before a 2001 race.

Before getting on his motorcycle, Knievel told the crowd that his father, who died in November, was a "great man, a great legend."

Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage said the jump was shortened "in the best interest of safety."

We are gearing up for a great 2008 TSCO "Vegas to Reno" event! We have put the mileage chart up in the VtoR file to help you get started with your logistics and pit plan.
Special Note for Trucks There is an underpass that is 7' high and 8' wide. Do not put your lights on until after Mile 210 or Pit #6. It is NOT 7'1" high, it is 7' high. If your vehicle is higher than 7' with your lights on DO NOT put them on to start!
We hope this information helps you get started to race "The Longest Off-Road Race In The United States". The entry forms and mailing will go out early July! If we send information out too early people lose it.
The Entry Forms are now posted, but again, the pre-printed entry forms and information letter will go out early July, you may use either. If you download the entry forms we prefer them on legal size paper, although we know not everyone has legal size paper, so don't let that stop you. Also, if a minor is racing we prefer the official entry form, page 2, be notarized, but you can use the Minor Form, either one is acceptable.
Motorcycle & Quad Pit Service Chris Blais with Blais Racing Services wants to provide pit support to any KTM MC or KTM Quad team. All teams must have a dry brake fueling system on their mc/q. They are still in the planning phases and first need to find out how many teams would be interested for this to happen. It you have interest for their pit support, please contact Chris or Patty Blais @ 760-961-9127 or email at chrisb@blaisracing.com.
MARS Racing is offering ANY Motorcycle or Quad Remote Pit Support Only at Pit # 12, Rawhide, the Remote Pit. For more information contact Marty @ 714-392-9175 or Mark @ 562-544-7118.
Baja Pits are also planning on helping with pit support. Contact Carlos Orozco @ 619-596-8033 for more information.
We hope you have a great summer and we're really looking forward to this year's TSCO "Vegas to Reno"!

After much deliberation, the Series Event #3 has moved from Ellensburg, WA to Cedar City, Utah for Back-2-Back action at the famed rock crawling destination. The big question on everyone's mind is can teams go for 3 in a row in the wins category? Some say it would be boring if it happened, others say it would be EPIC as the feat has never been accomplished before. We know Cody Waggoner is game for a comeback on Jesse Haines. Brad Lovell is near perfect and will be tough to beat, Tim Florian has shown is worth once again in another class and John James will try and outlast the rest of the F-Toy class once more. Can these teams sweep? The only way to find out is by checking out the links or attend the next event in Cedar City, Utah on June 21-22

     Re-evaluation of 2008 CORR Disqualifications

Dear  Drivers:
After reviewing Adrian Cenni's disqualifications, it has become evident that with the new points awarding system, a Disqualification is too severe of a penalty.  In comparing this year's points system to last year's,  a disqualification decision this year would have three to four times the impact that it would have had in previous years, effectively erasing a driver's chance of being a competitive force in the standings.
CORR has reevaluated the points awarded to drivers that received a disqualification in 2008.  The following changes have been made:
Adrian Cenni will receive the following points:
  • Round 3--Pro 4--69 Points
  • Round 4--Pro 4--69 Points
  • Round 4--Pro 2--62 Points
Rodrigo Ampudia will receive the following points:
  • Round 2--Pro 2--47 Points
Scott Peterson will receive the following points:
  • Round 4--Pro Buggy--29 Points
For all future races, any major infraction will be reviewed by CORR officials following each event weekend with penalties imposed on the Wednesday following the race.   In the future, infractions will be handled by point deductions.  CORR still reserves the right to impose disqualifications in very severe infractions.
We look forward to seeing you in Pomona.

                               Latest Article regarding Johnsonson Valley

April 8, 2008 - 2:56PM

TWENTYNINE PALMS — Bureau of Land Management and United States Marine Corps officials this week confirmed that permits have been issued to look into expanding the facility at Twentynine Palms — possibly by as much as 100,000 acres into Johnson Valley.

The land acquisition is part of an effort to become the nation’s premiere combat training facility, said Gunnery Sgt. Chris W. Cox, the public affairs chief at the Marine Corps Air/Ground Combat Center.

“The Marine Corps is looking at areas contiguous to the base, including the Johnson Valley, but no final decisions have been made regarding what alternatives will be pursued and analyzed,” Cox said in a prepared statement. “When the alternatives are finalized, we will inform the public.”

Permits were issued to conduct surveys of cultural and environmental impact, said BLM Chief of Resources, Mickey Quillman, who is based out of the Barstow office.

While both Quillman and Cox warned that the proposed project would be still be many years off, Quillman conceded there could be an impact on Lucerne Valley, in at least as much as noise levels are concerned.

“It would be used for military training — a combination of live fire and force on force training,” Quillman said.

Cox said that there is currently no training facility in the nation that can support the training requirements proposed by the Marine Corps, and that Twentynine Palms has been tasked with rectifying that.

“It is imperative that Marines receive the most realistic training before deploying into a combat environment that demands split-second life or death decisions. The potential land parcel additions would allow Marines to ‘train as they fight’ as a large-scale Marine Air Ground Task Force, in particular a Marine Expeditionary Brigade,” Cox said.

Quillman said that while the surveys are taking place, the process will require Notice of Intent — which will open the discussion to the public, through scoping meetings — and the proposal of alternative locations. Right now, he said it is unclear which direction the base will eventually decide on expanding into.

“This process of simply figuring out what land the base might actually need to meet the Marine Corps training requirements and how it affects other interests could take anywhere from three to five years” said Jim Ricker, assistant chief of staff for the G-5 training center.

That process, Cox said, “will involve a great deal of input from the local community and the wide range of stakeholders.” Quillman added that of particular concern are the off-road vehicle community and proposed solar projects.

At the most recent LVEDA meeting, Quillman said the base planned to take 100,000 acres of Johnson Valley, but amended his statement when speaking to Leader staff.

“It’s misleading to say the Marines are going to take 100,000 acres of Johnson Valley … we are looking at a number of locations,” Quillman said. “In a perfect world I don’t see anything happening for at least five years — we’ve just opened a dialogue.”

Collins Motorsports and Team Mopar® Double Up with   SNORE Mint 400 Triumph!

Center Line, Mich. — Chuck Hovey and Brian Collins teamed up to drive the No. 12
Collins Motorsports Mopar Dodge Ram 1500 to the Unlimited Class and overall win at
the SNORE Mint 400 near Jean, Nev., on Saturday, Mar. 29. The victory was the second
straight overall win for the Mopar Dodge Ram following Collins’ solo triumph at the
SCORE San Felipe 250
on Mar. 15.

Hovey piloted the No. 12 Mopar Dodge Ram for the first three of four 95-mile laps,
taking the lead on the third mile and handing off a 15 minute lead to teammate
Collins on the fourth and final lap. The team needed every bit of that cushion, as a
cut tire 15 miles from the finish imperiled an otherwise perfect outing. Collins
Motorsports co-rider Erik Dickinson came through under pressure, rapidly changing
the flat and sending the team to the winner’s circle at the first running of the
famed Mint 400 in twenty years.

“I thought this was a race in which I would never have the chance to win a trophy,”
said Collins. “To have it return twenty years later and to win it in the Mopar Dodge
is just phenomenal.”

“I can’t even begin to describe what I’m feeling,” said the joyous Hovey, a newcomer
to the Collins team. “To get to this level and then to win, it’s just amazing. It
was a great day. Everything clicked.”

The Team Mopar Collins Motorsports crew will attempt to maintain their win streak at
the Tecate SCORE Baja 500, scheduled for May 30 – June 1. For more information on
the SNORE Mint 400 or Tecate SCORE Baja 500, visit http://www.snoreracing.net or

Heidi Steele's Heartbreak is Most Others Dream Come True

March 21, 2008 — Starting 2008 with victories at the SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge and the Best in the Desert Parker 425 didn't leave teammates Heidi Steele and Tim Lawrence any room to improve. They were the top of their class known as 7sx for modified mid size trucks and came into the recent SCORE San Felipe 250 with the points lead and high hopes.

Heidi was also riding high as a finalist for the prestigious National Human Resource Association (NHRA) Orange County Executive of the Year. Both the 250 and the NHRA award would be decided within 3 days time and Heidi was burning the candle at both ends in typical fashion, which make it possible for her to be victorious in both arenas.

Heidi drives a Built Ford Tough Ranger pickup at the races and is the VP of Human Resources for Accent Care during her regular workweek, she holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration as well as Baja victories. Sponsored by Lucas Oil, Yokohama Tire, ATX Wheels and Alloy USA she has what equates to a full time race career and a full time job. No she doesn’t juggle tennis balls while on fire but no doubt she could do it.

At 5'8" and 107lbs one may not expect the blonde executive to be a competitive driver but her track record more that proves her determination. In 2005 Heidi was class champion and winner of the Baja 500 and Baja 1000, in 2008 she has continued her winning ways and after a 4th place finish in San Felipe she and Lawrence lead the championship point’s race with 3 events remaining in the SCORE International series.

"We were racing for the win and were within 40 seconds of the lead when we had a ball joint break," said Tim. "We were able to fix the truck and narrowly missed 3rd place but the important part is that we finished and we are the only truck in our class who has done that at every race this year," continued Tim whose TLR racing shop preps and builds their Ford Ranger truck.

"It's tough leading the points in the two top organizations," said Heidi "We are battling in some cases two sets of trucks, both of which are mostly racing one series or the other."

Following last weeks San Felipe race the NHRA recognized Heidi as the "outstanding organizer" of 2008 at the recent Executive of the Year gala in front of a group of her peers and media alike. It wasn’t the top award, but just like in San Felipe, you can't win if you don't finish....or in this case aren't nominated.

Heidi, Tim and crew will next aim their racing efforts on the Terrible Town 250 April 12th in the Southern Nevada desert. Entering this race they will be leading both points series and have finished every mile of all the races in 2008. Expectations are high but what else could you expect of the only women driver of record in a 4 wheel vehicle out of 280 plus entries at the San Felipe event, they go to win and they never lose track of their goal.

Schwarz/Christensen capture Class 1 in Jimco-BMW, Bell/Campbell ride Honda to Overall Motorcycle & Class 22 win

SAN FELIPE, Mexico—Second-generation veteran Las Vegas desert racer Brian Collins roared through the rugged trails and washes of Mexico’s Baja California desert Saturday, earning the overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck victory in the No. 1 Collins Motorsports Mopar Dodge Ram 1500 at the 22nd Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 desert race. Setting a blistering pace right from the start in San Felipe and driving solo, he covered the sandy, silty, rocky and dusty 232-mile course in just three hours, 44 minutes, 16 seconds, averaging and amazing 62.07 miles per hour.

Dominating the field of 263 desert racers and mastering the race course with blazing speed and power, Collins’ time beat not only the cars and trucks, but also the motorcycles and ATVs that competed in the popular ‘spring break’ event to earn his fourth class win in San Felipe including his second overall triumph and his fifth career SCORE Trophy-Truck race win in the 14-plus year history of SCORE’s marquee racing division for high-tech, 800-horsepower, unlimited production trucks.

It was also the first time since 1979 that a Dodge-powered vehicle won a SCORE race.

Finishing second overall and in SCORE Trophy-Truck in the elapsed-time race, 8 minutes and 27 seconds behind the masterful Collins was last year’s winning team of Mark Post, Laguna Beach, Calif. and Rob MacCachren, Las Vegas, who finished Saturday’s race in 3:52:43 in the No. 1 Riviera Racing Ford F-150.

While Collins pulled off the ‘Ironman’ run in driving his Dodge truck the entire race himself, Post and MacCachren, who were the 2007 SCORE Overall and SCORE Trophy-Truck season point champions, split the driving in their Ford F-150 with Post starting and turning over the wheel to MacCachren, the 2007 Dirt Sports Magazine Driver of the Year, at race mile 109.

The 263 starters from 21 States, Mexico, Canada, Germany, Italy and Israel competed in 27 Pro and 6 Sportsman classes for cars, truck, motorcycles and ATVs. The course covered three of the legendary, picturesque and treacherous Baja washes: Matomi, Azufre and Huatomote before heading back to the finish line in the shadow of the landmark San Felipe Arches.  The race featured the fifth-largest number of starters in the 22-year history of the event.

Said Collins following his huge victory: “We never got out of the truck. We just had a great day. We ran at not a really hard pace, but a consistent pace the first 25 miles. We caught Bobby Baldwin right away. We caught Chad Ragland right away and Gus Vildosola. Then it was dust free. Garron Cadiente was pulled over and B.J. Baldwin was going slow for a while. It just opened up for us. (after opening up an eight-minute lead) I was very nervous about Rob MacCachren. I knew I had eight minutes and that's a lot of time, but there's never enough time with Rob. He's a phenomenal driver, a great friend. Hopefully someday we can drive together. When he's in a truck, you can't make mistakes. All the racers are glad to be back here in San Felipe. This course is absolutely phenomenal. I love it. The rougher the course is, the better it is for me.”

Winning the overall Motorcycle and Class 22 title was the talented team of Robby Bell, Sun City, Calif., and Baja legend Johnny Campbell, San Clemente, Calif., on the No. 1x Johnny Campbell Racing Honda CRF450X.  Finishing fourth among all vehicles, the pair finished in 4:08:32 with an average speed of 56.01mph.

For this popular race, it was the third straight overall win for Bell while Campbell secured his eighth class win and the seventh all-around title in San Felipe in his illustrious career.  It was also his first SCORE Baja race win for Campbell’s new American Honda-sponsored Johnny Campbell Racing team. Bell started the race, riding to race mile 30, Campbell did a tough middle portion from there to race mile 166 and Bell finished the final 64 miles, clinching the victory for the record-setting team.

Reflecting on his win, Bell said “It was a clean ride. I got a little confused coming into the finish and probably lost a little time. I couldn't feel my arms by the time I got off it at mile 30. I knew behind me they'd be running really fast. I gave the bike to Johnny at 30 and he just rode awesome. He took it to mile 167 and I picked up from there and brought it to here. I pulled at least a minute and a half (ahead) at the start. It was just chaotic. I passed probably eight or 10 local trucks going out, so it was hazy and scary and pretty dusty. Once I got past that, it was clean, no problems with spectators or anything. It feels awesome. It's probably one of the toughest runs you could ever do. Even though it's not so long, it's just so physically demanding. To win this one, just shows the bike was set up really well. It was flawless. In a race this short, you can't have any problems. It just comes down to seconds. It's not good being first off because you
just don't know. When you get to the finish, you just have to turn around and hope nobody comes in too son.”

Wayne Matlock, El Cajon, Calif., lead a team to the Overall ATV and Class 25 victory for the second time in this race on a Honda TRX450R.  He split the riding time equally with co-riders Harold Goodman Jr., Brownstown, Mich., and Marc Spaeth, Warner Springs, Calif.

Matlock started the race and rode to race mile 30 and finished the race, riding the final 62 miles. Goodman rode from race mile 30 to 93 and Spaeth rode from race mile 93 to 170.

Helping SCORE Trophy-Truck sweep the podium in the overall portion of the event while also finishing third in the premiere SCORE racing division was second-generation desert racer Chad Ragland, Vista, Calif., who drove solo to a time of 3:55:59 in the No. 33 T-Force Motorsports Toyota Tundra. The truck was making only it’s second SCORE race start after finishing 12th in SCORE Trophy-Truck in the its debut race with teammates Danny Sullivan and Dan Friedkin in last November’s 40th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.

Former World Rally Championship star driver Armin Schwarz, of Germany, and Martin Christensen, Escondido, Calif., split the driving to finish fourth overall and capture the unlimited Class 1 race win in a BMW-powered Jimco open-wheel desert race car.  With just over one year of experience in SCORE desert racing, Schwarz pulled off his first SCORE win while the veteran former SCORE class champion Christensen earned his first ever win in Class 1.

With a time of 4:08:22 and an average speed of 56.02mph, it was also the first time a BMW-powered vehicle has ever won a class in a SCORE race.
